Jehanabad
history runs pretty much parallel with Bihar history. There is
nothing to distinguish between the two. Both have witnessed the rise and
fall of many important empires.The most important one being Maghdha
Empire, an empire that had made entire Bihar region its citadel during
ancient period. Nonetheless, any discussion about
Jehanabad history would be incomplete without mentioning how Jehanabad
city got its name. Jehanabad was actually named after Jahanara Begum
Sahib, daughter of the famous Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. During medieval
century mighty Mughal Empire was ruling the entire northern India
including Bihar region. After Battle of Buxar Jehanabad along with other parts of Bihar passed into the hands of English East India Company and remained under British yoke till independence. The district came into existence on 1 August 1986 which until now was a sub-division of Gaya district.

Situated at the confluence of the rivers Yamuna & Dardha, Jehanabad cordinates between 25-0’ to 25-15’ degree North latitude and 84-31’ to 85-15’ East Longitude. While district of Nalanda lies in east and Arwal in the west, district of Patna lies in north and Gaya in south.
